Evaluation: How did you use new technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the process, new technologies have been in every aspect of the construction of both my ancilarly and main task. To create a creative music video, new technologies have to be used in order to get the most; this is why I made a point of using industry standard software in every aspect of this project.

Carrying out research on a number of different things ranging from Adobe Premier Pro tutorials and advice given. Examples of some of the search engines that were used in order to help in research were Google, Yahoo and Ask.com.

YouTube is a video sharing website which users upload and view videos that have been uploaded, the website has become a huge phenomenon over recent years and is  regularly visited for music videos and tutorials. This became a huge research source within the project, which I visited to gain inspiration from. YouTube allows for bands to create their own channels and use this is a platform to showcase their music videos. As well as this, I have used new media technologies such as USB, iTunes, TV and computers throughout the research stages.

Ensuring that our group work has been arranged and scheduled efficiently, we felt it was neccessary to keep up to date via a production schedule be through facebook or dropbox. This new media technology is a brilliant way of sharing work with eachother, almost a portable USB with no stick to worry about.

I researched existing media products using the Internet, on sites such as 'Youtube', where I could view music videos of varying genres.
In the beginning stages of our project we pitched our music video idea to our media teachers which was then filmed, we used the new media technology such as video equipment and Adobe Premiere Pro to doccument this. By videoing the pitch, it enabled us to see where we were going wrong ourselves and what we needed to improve on in the planning stage.

Above a video researched on YouTube of the pop/r&b genre.

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro and Indesign were all new media technologies used within constructing the media video. Photoshop and indesign were all used with skills carried from previous projects however premier pro was a new software. To get used to Premier Pro we had to construct an open day video showcasing our school. Adobe Photoshopwas used within production stages of my ancillary tasks, using this software for editing and also to create my promotional poster. I developed photoshop and also inDesign, which was where my booklet was created.

The evaluating process also heavily involved new media technology from filming feedback, questionnaires and also asking opinions via Facebook. New media technology is heavily relied upon in our generation from playing songs on our smartphones whilst filming to capture lyrics to the editing of footage. Without New Media Technology my brand of products would not look as professional and the mise-en-scene could not of been captured to the full like I have.

Evaluation: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Believing our video follows the conventions of a music video coming from the Pop genre, because researching videos from the pop genre picking up the codes and conventions to see how they were formed. A range of different camera angles, different facial expressions, a clear narrative and also a whole host of different locations were common conventions of a Pop music video which has been hugely incorporated in our final video. In our final music video, we had learnt from our previous efforts and carefully followed the codes and conventions of real pop-music videos. Our location was vast- complimenting the narrative we aimed to aspire.

My magazine advert and CD also follows the conventions. I researched many adverts and CD's from the Pop genre to see what mine should look like before completing my draft work. This allowed me to be sure what format I needed below is my Poster compared with an exisiting product:

When researching my ancillary tasks I wanted to generally conform to the codes and conventions of existing media products. I looked at various examples including an advert for the new Bruno Mars album, where the artist stood out capturing passer byes attention. Also above you can see my poster next to Adeles. I have conformed with this poster with the simplistic image and bold text truly capturing attention, however I ahve subverted the black and white image and added a sepia image to relate with the mise-en-scene of our band.

Our final mise-en-scene for the video was conventional of the genre - the characters (above) looked like realistic and appropriate characters of the genre (similarities exists between our band and the real 'Olly Murs and female companion', shown below). Having to act as a couple proved to be a difficulty to begin with however after audience feedback this soon became a key part as it had to be realistic.

Evaluation; How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts?

Using all of the conventional motifs that are apparent between a combinations of media texts; I have included a logo within all media texts which I have explained in previous blogs. The record company Syco Music, is conventionally present across all of my print texts creating a brand which is the same across the whole group.

The simplicity of the plain backgrounds is apparent throughout all media texts as well with the union Jack. However this is a huge part of my anciliary tasks it only features slightly within the music video, below are two pictures one of the back of my CD case and the other a scene featuring within the video, as you will be aware both feature the flag adding to the retro feel of the project.

As a brand was being created not only was the union flag incorporated within the video and also the CD it also has a heavy part in the promotion poster of the single. Here below is the poster with the background of the union flag making up the main part of the poster.

Evaluation; What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Feedback has been a key part of the project. The audience analysed the video in a connotative and denotative manor allowing the group to understand the constructive criticism given and to change the video if necessary.
Also sheets were completed by various people on the night and also the next day when the videos were showcased to year 11 media pupils. Questions which were asked:
'Did you enjoy it?'
'Was the mise-en-scene constructed well?'
Below are some of the responses which we obtained:
Male.14
+Kept with mise-en-scene
-Bit fuzzy at times
+Keeps with the theme of original video

Male.16
+Fade effect linked well
-Fuzzy camera work
+Fits perfectly with the genre

Female,15
+The settings fit gloriously
-One scene looked pecuilar
+Editing was good

After collecting the above evidence to positively suggest that we had entertained our target audience with our music video. This feedback was essential to help us understand that the methods that we as a group employed to construct the mise-en-scene of the video were noticed by the audience.
The video manages to conform to Toderov's 'cycle of equilibrium' - the equilibrium of the Olly Murs relationship disrupted by the new life and love within the girls scenes.

Evaluation: Finished Ancillary Task

Here are my final pieces of my print work, I will evaluate each piece with a few analytical words and also explain why I have chosen such layouts, colours, themes etc.

The simplicity within this shot is key, with the union jack faded over and the orange text being a huge part. This truly conforms to the mise-en-scene which was inspired from previous research.

The booklet has a huge emphasis on the Joy of Olly Murs genre and also has the motif of the Union Jack running throughout. The different coloured pages convert to the Pop genre with also quotes from Olly giving the personal touch.

The spine includes the album title, artist name, source number and also production company confroming to exisiting products.
The reverse of the CD includes artist name, tracks, album name, production company and the running motif of the Union Jack which was developed as a group from the style sheet.

The front cover of the CD is simple however has a bold impact with the eye-contact and also the orange text. This was key within our group to have simple with a slight edge and I believe this has been truly captured here.

The running motif is used here with the sepia effect adding to the retro mise-en-scene. Also the title is apparent here again with also three pictures of Olly Murs (Sam Robinon) in a collage effect.

This poster is my favourite. 'Striking' was given with audience feedback as it truly stands out from the rest, this was apperent during the creative arts evening as a photo collage was used. The motif is used again here with also a sepia effect across the whole poster addint to the vintage feel of the single.
