Meeting for group to see where we are...make plans  (including ancillary)

Through past projects in Media, I've learnt that organisation is a key aspect to not only the planning, but the overall success of a project. Leaving things to the last minute can lead to rushed decisions and to avoid this, a schedule to ensure work was produced by deadline dates that we had made ourselves.

Research- Iconography

Above are shots of different Iconography which can be used throughout our media Project. Later on in posts I will describe why these can be used and exactly how they will be incorporated.

Research- Location and Characters

This is a mood board in which the group constructed on various Locations which we could set our Music Video. Using the Lyrics to help decide, we came up with a subsequent amount of Locations:
  • Beach
  • London
  • Green Screen
  • Vintage streets ( Brick Lane)
  • Camden
  • Busy London Streets
This has also meant that the mise-en-scene has been easily identified, I will talk later in my blog about the types of camera angles we are hoping to use.
The set/setting and location list enables the group to combined both the themes and genres and incorporate through the use of location.

Charcters were a key aspect, as their roles play an important element. Therefore as a group we sat down and discussed who should play who. It then fell upon myself 'Sam Robinson' to play Olly Murs and 'Faith Brackstone' another memeber of the group to play the female companion. This was decided as we knew we would be reliable and could incorporate our own vision throughout the filming process.

Research- Genre

Due to Olly Murs 'Thinking of me' having a pop and a slight reggae genre, the mood board above is of iconic artists who also have this genre. As you can see bright colours, close up shots and a fun image is created from each of these album covers.
Pop music is often pointed towards the youth market , usually using new technology and also new themes. Hopefully this will be created in our promotional package.

Annotated Lyrics

Here is the annotated lyrics of Olly Murs 'Thinking of me'. This really helped to get the overall theme of the song as well as location, style and storyline ideas. For instance the bridge of the song has been decided to be in Black and White to show the reminiscent memories as well as the change in the tone and mood.
Still not fully decided upon certain aspects within the song for instance the chorus however hopefully this will come in time such as whether to have a striking motif or whether to have a subtle motif.

Research Song

The final Song which the group decided upon is:

Olly Murs- Thinking of me

The group decided upon this song as we believe it will be challenging yet fun and also we will be able to portray a strong story line and an apparent mise-en-scene. The next post is the annotated Lyrics of the song to show which route we will be taking.

Preliminary Task- Open Day Video

For the Preliminary task the class was split into several groups and had to undertake a task of constructing an open day video. The group which I was placed in had the opportunity to construct the section of Extra Curriculum. Using Stock Footage and Footage of our own the construction took a lot of planning and time so all aspects were covered. The task was set upon the class to gain confidence in using Premier Pro and also to teach how to organise time and work within a team.

The Final Video is shown above. Working well as a group we managed to construct a strong final video which has meant that using Premier Pro for the preliminary task has enabled me to feel more confident in using this software for my final Music Video. Throughout this task we have been able to understand time management and planning is extremely valuable and needs to be executed in detail in order to gain the best final version.

First decision- Song Choice

The first major decision was which song to create a promotional packagae for. As a group we brainstormed some of our favourite artists and songs. Here below is the brainstrom which I created so as a group we could have many different options available:

Creating this brainstorm meant that we each had a clear image of the genre of music we each listened to and it was very apparent that the pop genre stood out and was a dominant genre of music which we all liked and listened to.
From finding this out as a group we researched the vodafone big top 40 chart http://www.bigtop40.com/ to help gain inspiration and also part of audience feedback as this will address which songs and artists appeal to our genre.

The group and I have been discussing what song to chose for the final music video project by looking at different genres and codes and conventions of each song. The final two songs which were selected were 'Ellie Goulding- Your song' and 'Olly Murs- Thinking Of Me'.
The group found it extremely hard choosing between the two songs, to help gain inspiration from each song the group annotated the lyrics. As each song had a specific story and layout we then gained audience feedback to help us decide which song. We produced a questionnaire and handed it out in the Canteen at school. The age range in which we gave the questionnaire ranged from Year 7's up to some of the senior teachers, this would enable us to get feedback from different generations.

Here are the artists actual videos of the artists which has meant we could gain inspirations from the mise-en-scene and also the iconography from each video.

Here is the questionnaire that the group created in order to target our target audience which is 13-28 due to the pop genre:

First Post

This blog has been created for my advanced portfolio in Media. The blog will be used to evaluate and record the progress made throughout the project. This will help me during my task as I will be able to identify any issues and where changes are due.
